Before today, I was unaware of the beautiful food creation that is known as the jibarito--a sandwich made of plantains. Borinquen is the place to go for this sweet and savory treat; a feast for the senses. For those of you that are anti bread-ists, this is the sandwich for you. A meal that is filling, but not gluttonous, deserves a taste. Fortunately, there are three locations in Chicago-- the neighborhoods of Cragin, Humboldt Park and North Center. I took a trip to the Cragin neighborhood location (northwestern corner of Chi City). This was a drive if your home base is the area surrounding the loop, the west side, or the south side. This location seems to have recycled an abandoned Taco Bell building, the food, however, is leaps and bounds far above the well-known cheap-eats taco chain. Wherever you are in the city of Chicago, you can get your jibarito on at Borinquen.
